Enhanced Mode
Unlike browser, most application doesn't support proxy(socks/http). In this case, only system-level transparent proxy is available. There are many optional solutions, Tachyon uses TUN device under the hood.
What Enhanced Mode actually do is create a TUN device, modify system route table and change system DNS(backed up) to tachyon DNS.
Tachyon Service
The feature is provided by Tachyon Service which is running under root/admin privileges.
On windows/linux, the service will be automatically configured.
On MacOS, you need approve manually in System Settings -> General -> Login Items & Extensions -> App Background Activity -> Tachyon Tray.app.
Tachyon Service will be cleaned automatically after Tachyon uninstalled.
Fake IP
Learn more about the technical details of Fake IP.
Once Enhanced Mode is enabled, Tachyon sets the system DNS to its internal DNS server (198.18.0.2).
- A/AAAA Queries: All address queries are intercepted and resolved to a "Fake IP" within the reserved ranges (IPv4:
198.18.0.0/15, IPv6:fc00::/7). These responses are served with a very short TTL (1s) to ensure the mapping remains dynamic and fresh. - Other Query Types: Non-address queries (such as MX, TXT, or CNAME) are forwarded directly to the configured upstream/system DNS.
